When it comes to lawsuits, it seems like no one is immune to being chased down by lawyers. Well, this applies to everyone – celebrities as well. In fact, it’s become somewhat of a trend for photographers to sue celebs who’ve posted their own pictures on social media. The question is, what happens then?
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez is the first on our list who was sued for posting pictures of herself to social media. In 2017, she had posted a paparazzi photo of her and her fiance, Alex Rodriguez, to her Instagram. Well, this wasn’t a good idea, apparently.
She was then sued for $150,000 for posting the photo without owning the rights to it. In fact, it was the photographer who decided to take action and sue the star as well as her production company for copyright infringement. We’re still seeing how this matter will be resolved. Who else got sued?
Khloe Kardashian
Khloe Kardashian
Well, J.Lo isn’t the only celeb that was sued for posting a picture of herself on Instagram. Khloe Kardashian fell victim to the same situation in 2017 after she posted a picture of herself and her sister Kourtney to her Instagram page.
She was then sued by Xposure Photos, a UK-based photo agency that wanted $25,000 in damages, an injunction, and profits from the use of the photo. We wonder how that case was settled…
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande
Next up, we have Ariana Grande who was sued for the same thing – posting an image of herself online. In fact, her post got over 3 million likes before it was deleted. The photographer who snapped said pic later filed a lawsuit against the singer since she didn’t license the two photos she posted on Instagram.
The photographer sued Ariana for up to $25,000 each or the profits the singer made on them. Other celebs were treated the same way, but who?
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid
Supermodel Gigi Hadid is yet another celeb who was sued for copyright infringement. She had posted a photo of herself to her Instagram page that was later deleted since she was being “legally pursued” for using it.
She did not take it quietly, though. She later slammed the photo agency, saying it was “absurd” she was being sued “for a photo he [the photographer] has already been paid for by whatever outlet [that] put it online.” Yikes.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson
It seems that no celebrity is immune to lawsuits, which brings us to Jessica Simpson. She was sued in 2018 for posting a picture of herself leaving the Bowery Hotel in New York. The photographer stated that he had only licensed the photo for limited use to the Daily Mail when Jessica posted it.
Eventually, the case was dismissed on March 30, 2018.
